Review: The Lion Guard: Return of the Roar

The Lion Guard: Return of the Roar is the newst installment of The Lion King franchise, bringing back characters we all know and love such as Simba(Rob Lowe), Nala(Gabrielle Union), Mufasa(James Earl Jones), and Pumbaa(Ernie Sabella), whilst also introducing new characters to continue the legacy. I was very young when I first saw The Lion King, and honestly never followed the sequal or any subsequent spin offs very closely, but Disney hit the nail on the head with The Lion Guard: Return of the Roar, turning nostalgia into present day excitement.

This movie follows Kion, second-born cub of the mighty Simba, and beautiful Nala, and his journey to fulfil his destiny and become the Leader of all Lions. He forms an alliance with the most unexpected group of friends: Bunga, a honey badger, Fuli, a cheetah, Beshte, a hippopotamus, and ono, an Egret, and thus, The Lion Guard is born. I imagine this is a spin on some sort of National Guard for Lions, and the different type of animals sybolize diversity. It is odd, but fun, and enjoyable to watch.

Overall this film will be an entertaining watch, and those of you that have kids will definitely enjoy it! Do right by your kids and start with the original Lion King, if you haven’t already.
